Aquilo que se afirma da luz da natureza também é válido para os Dez Mandamentos dados por Deus através de Moisés, particularmente aos judeus. Embora a lei revele a grandeza do pecado e convença cada vez mais o homem da sua culpa, ainda assim não lhe aponta a cura nem lhe dá poder para se erguer e sair das suas misérias. Antes, enfraquecida pela carne, a lei deixa o transgressor debaixo de maldição. Por essa causa, o homem não pode obter a graça salvadora através da lei.
