# Artigo 27

## **A igreja cristã católica ou universal.**

Cremos e professamos uma única igreja católica ou universal,1 que é a santa congregação e assembléia2 dos verdadeiros crentes em Cristo, que aguardam a sua total salvação em Jesus Cristo,3 lavados por Seu sangue e santificados e selados pelo Espírito Santo.4\

Essa igreja existe desde o princípio do mundo e existirá até o final, pois Cristo é Rei Eterno que não pode ficar sem súditos.5 Essa santa igreja é preservada por Deus contra o furor do mundo inteiro,6 mesmo que por um tempo pareça, aos olhos do homem, mui pequena e quase extinta.7 Assim, no perigoso reino de Acabe, o Senhor preservou para Si sete mil pessoas que não dobraram os joelhos a Baal.8\

Além disso, esta santa igreja não está confinada nem limitada a um lugar em particular nem a pessoas específicas, mas está espalhada e dispersa pelo mundo inteiro.9 Contudo, está integrada e unida, de coração e vontade, em um único e mesmo Espírito, pelo poder da fé.10\
