É certo que depois da queda restou no homem um pouco da luz natural pela qual ainda lhe ficou alguma noção de Deus, das coisas naturais, da diferença entre o honrável e o vergonhoso, e dá mostras de alguma consideração pela virtude e pela ordem exterior. Mas está tão longe de chegar ao conhecimento salvador de Deus e da verdadeira conversão por meio dessa luz da natureza que nem mesmo a usa do modo apropriado nas questões naturais e civis. Antes, não importa o que seja esta luz, o homem a polui completamente de várias formas e a suprime pela sua injustiça, tornando-se assim inescusável diante de Deus.
